The boys were on form and it was a one way game with attack after attack. The goal keeper for DY was certainly kept busy and he made some terrific saves, but it wasn't long before Kieron  M scored a goal. The half time score was 2 -0 to WE. Oliver scored 2 great goals and with MOTM Jay scoring they knew they had this game in the bag. The end score was a HUGE 9 - 0 win for West End. It didn't take long for super striker Zach to put the ball where it belonged, this was quickly followed by MOTM Thomas scoring the second. Denton Youth were worried, but managed to claw back 2 goals. We were not going to be beaten and with Jacob on the case he scored a great goal bringing the half time score to 3 -2. A quick drink and they were all ready to go again. The defenders all worked hard and did an amazing job. Lewis B saved goal after goal with some unbelievable leaps. 24/10/09 - Well, where to begin, A lot of illness in the team this week meant we only had 12 players - 6 per team against 3D Dynamos 7. Did we let that stop us? - Oh no!! The B Team started really well. Great defending by MOTM Zach Butterworth and Trey Kitchen. A fantastic first goal by David put us in the lead. It was a great half, even though we were a player down they looked no better than us. They did manage to equalise though and at H/T it was 1-1.The second half was more of the same. Everyone gave 150%. Another goal by David, to much cheering, meant that we went ahead again. Thomas Rowen and Jacob Crossland were brilliant in midfield however we could have scored a few more. Lewis Braithwaite had a great match but 3D equalised again. We were more than happy with the final 2-2 result. The A team match was equally if not more exciting. All the boys knew they had to try their absolute hardest against 3Ds 7 boys. Ryan Davies scored his first goal for us, a great chip into the goal, and after that there was no stopping him. Kieran McTeggart and Ola Odipe were all over the pitch today, such good defending, saving us time and time again. Another goal from Ryan ensured 2-1 H/T. A corner from Ola resulted in a goal from Lewis Campbell was the start of Lewis's hat trick in the second half. Passing worthy of Shaun Wright Phillips from Jay Stringer and some Shay Given saves from stand in keeper Liam Stubbs. As our boys started to tire 3D manged to get 3 back - causing a nail biting finish but MOTM Ryan Davies completed his hat trick too and the final result was 6-4 to much celebration!!

31/10/09 - It was a cup game today and West End were against Heyside. The whistle blew for the first match to start and before you could blink Ryan had scored his first goal, which was quickly followed by Lewis C scoring the second. Heyside looked worried as MOTM Ola made it to 3 -0. With great passing and the team worked well together. Lewis C scored another 2 goals and Ryan another 1 the half time score was 6-0. West End were on a roll and nothing was going to stop them. The second half was just as quick and the dynamic duo Ryan and Lewis each scored another goal. Heyside tried their best and managed to squeeze past our tough defenders to scrape 2 goals. The end result was 8-2. The second game how ever was a different story!!! What happened lads? Heyside were determined to make up for the first match and they did. Its a good job that MOTM Lewis B was awake in goals. He saved goal after goal and worked really hard. There was some excellent defending form Liam and Harrison. Oli took a shot at goal which was deflected by the keeper on to a Heyside player who scored an own goal. The strikers tried to get the ball through the defence but it just wasn't happening today. The end score was 1-3 to Heyside. Which gave us an overall score of 9-5 to West End. Well done everyone.

07/11/09 - It was a late match today and West End were against 3D Dynamos. The first game started really quickly with Zach Butterworth and 3D both scoring in the first few minutes of the match. West End were on the attack, try as they might they were finding it difficult to grab a second goal. Lewis Braithwaite and the defenders were certainly kept busy keeping the Dynamo attackers at bay- and they did by saving shot after shot. Jacob Crossland and David Morrow worked well in attack together, Jacob shot was saved by the keeper but his trusty partner David was there to score on the re bound. Half time score 2-1 to West End. MOTM Thomas Rowen worked hard and never gave up chasing the ball, marking the opposition and making them work hard. Dynamos managed to scrape another goal and the lads knew they had to give it their all, unluckily for West End - Dynamos scored seconds before the final whistle making the final score 2 - 3 to 3D Dynamos. The next team were warming up and ready to go. Ola Odipe was on fine form this chilly morning, with great defending and attacking. West End were not going to give them any chances, Thomas Rowen and Kieran Crosthwaite were excellent in defence, keeping the Marple attackers at bay. The first (of many) goals came very quickly from MOTM David Morrow, a fantastic goal, shot with his left foot. The team worked really well together and made a tough game look easy. Thomas Rowen was quick to make it 2-0 with a great goal. Rees Havell made some excellent saves, but Marple managed to nip through and score. This didn't worry the lads to much as Zach Butterworth made the half time score 3-1. Phew if that wasn't enough excitement Jacob Crossland scored a beautiful goal from a corner kick, there was no way Marple could stop it from going into the back of the net. We saw great team work from James Shepherd and Harrison Birch, which enabled MOTM David Morrow to score his hat trick with another two outstanding goals. (What did he have for breakfast?).Final score 6-1. West End knew they would have a battle to keep the disgruntled Marple from winning the next game. It was a difficult game, but as we all know, West End are not known for giving up. All the team worked hard defending Marple (which was not easy with all the pushing and shirt pulling going on!!). Marple scored the first goal just before half time making it 1-0. After a half time pep talk from their manager they came back on the pitch determined to win. Trey Kitchen, Jay Stringer and Ryan Davies all had shots saved. West End had switched the game around from defending to attacking. The second half of the match was great David Morrow saved a free kick, MOTM James Shepherd worked his socks off in mid field putting AFC under pressure. AFC came back with two goals but is too little too late as Jacob Crossland scored his hat trick with another goal. The final score was 4 - 2 to West End. Well done to both of the teams.

Where on earth did that come from, but it didn't put off West End who were playing against Denton Youth in a cup game today.West End were on the attack, DY had stepped up their defence and were doing a good job of it. Shot after shot was saved by the keeper. Denton Youth had a throw in and made off with the ball and scored! The lads were not giving up, MOTM Ola Odipe worked hard with some fantastic passing, Ryan Davis and Jay Stringer tried to score but it seemed mission impossible today and with the half time score still at 1-0 to DY they knew they had to work hard. Lewis Campbell came back on the pitch determined to get a goal and after a great run he puts the ball in the back of the net - well done Lewis. We lost count of how many corners were taken, but the DY defence were not letting it past. Just before the final whistle DY score again taking the final score  2-1 to Denton Youth. The second team knew they had to work hard and score some goals and it didn't take long, MOTM  David Morrow worked his socks off, he made outstanding runs and with a nifty pass to Zach Butterworth, Zach scored the first goal. Harrison Birch showed off some great defending skills and coupled with Thomas Rowans fearless tackles the team were playing well. Lewis Braithwait saved some really tricky shots from DY. The team knew they had to score again and from a corner kick the ball found David Morrows head and he scored the second goal. Final score 2-0 to West End, overall score 3-2 to West End well done lads it was an astronomical game.

30.01.10 - It was a late kick off today and the sun was shining - unfortunately right in the goal keepers eyes, who had to face it!! We were playing Denton Youth today and after last weeks win, Denton Youth were ready to even the scores. The first match kicked off and it looked like a repeat of last week, West End were attacking and had what seemed like a zillion corners but were unable to find the back of the net. DY caught the lads on the run and scored the first goal. MOTM Thomas Rowan and David Morrow did some excellent defending preventing another goal. DY spotted a gap and quickly scored again. Lewis Braithwait made amazing saves, but DY were on a mission to score. Tray Kitchen spotted the attackers heading for goal and saved the ball from going in the net, and followed it up with some great defending skills. Unfortunately DY scored again just before half time. After a word of encouragement from the manager the boys came back on determined to even the score. Kieran Crosthwaite defended well sending the ball up the pitch, Liam Stubbs had a great run and passed it to David Morrow who scored the first goal for WE. Jacob Crossland was pushed over and given a free kick which he took with style and scored again. WE were waking up!! There was no stopping Jacob Crossland as he scored again, the score was 3 all. Time was running out when DY were given a free kick and scored, the whistle blew and the end score was 3-4 to DY. Well done for a great come back. The second team were warmed up and ready to go. It didn't take long for superman Lewis Campbell to score the first goal, DY were in shock but came back with a goal of their own. MOTM Oliver Jenner played well in defence and made some great tackles. Jay Stringer made a fantastic run up the pitch and passed it perfectly to Lewis Campbell who scored again. Great team work. With the half time score at 2-1 to WE they knew they couldn't let their guards down. During the second half the defenders Ola Odipe, Oliver Jenner and Kieran McTaggert were certainly kept busy and they worked hard to keep the ball out. Ryan Davis and  Jay Stringer tried to score but the goal keeper was on form. The end result was 2-1 to West End. Well done to both teams.

06.02.10 - Another late kick off today and West End were against AFC Stanley. It was a struggle today and the boys seemed to have difficulty getting near to the goals. AFC defended well and surrounded to goal area to make it impossible for West End to score. That's not to say they didn't have a go, MOTM Jay Stringer had a good attempt and looked like it was going in when an AFC defender appeared from out of nowhere  and saved it. The boys worked hard as a team with neat passes to each other, Kieran McTaggert stormed the pitch and didn't give in. Just before half time AFC scored a very lucky goal. During the second half Liam Stubbs defended really well and had some great tackles. With AFC defending like their lives depended on it there was no chance for West End to score, hard luck lads but you did play well. Final score 0-1 to AFC. The second team had been closely watching and determined not to let them win the next match. West End were on the attack from the start, and again AFC defended well, unfortunately it wasn't long before AFC scored the first goal and this was quickly followed by a second. West End knew they had to do something to stop them. David Morrow leaped into action and scored West Ends first goal. The whistle blew for half time. AFC looked confident as they came back on but there was no way West End were going to make it easy peasy lemon squeezy for them. MOTM Zach Butterworth showed them who was boss and scored a goal. West Ends confidence was back and Zach then went on to score another. Ola Odipe had a shot but it bounced off the post, James Shepherd defended well not letting AFC steal another chance. With only minutes to spare Ola Odipe ran down the wing and took a shot, the goal keeper managed to get a hand to it and hit it out only to find David Morrow who safely put it in the back of the net. Final score 4 -2 to West End. Well Done!

13/02/10 - Reddish Phoenix today and our boys were ready. We needed to win both games today to be back in contention to win the league. RP were no pushover though. Attack after attack by David Morrow and Zach Butterworth was blocked by their defence and when we did get through the ball behaved like a cabbage and wouldnt go into the net! H/T 0-0 Early into the second half David Morrow magnificently crossed the ball to Jacob Crossland who placed it into the net. Great work by James Shepherd. A fantastic volley into the net by Zach Butterworth made it 2-0 to us. Excellent defending by Thomas Rowen and MOTM Kieran Crosthwaite. Rees Havill made some great saves today ensuring they didnt score more than one. F/t 2-1. The second match was just as exciting but more nerve wracking. Plenty of goals from both sides. MOTM Ola Odipe kicked off the scoring with a brilliant goal and Lewis Campbell followed shortly with another. We thought we had it in the bag and relaxed a bit too much allowing RP to put 2 past us. H/T 2-2. An OG by RP put us back in the lead followed by another from Ola Odipe. Great passing between Jay Stringer, Ryan Davies and Lewis Campbell today which ended up with a goal from Lewis. Kieran McTeggart and Trey Kitchen also defended well at the back but RP still managed to score another two. After a nail biting last few minutes we managed to hang on to our lead. F/t 5-4. Well done boys.

20/02/10 - It was a nail biting cup game today against Brendon Bees. We were a few players short and had just enough for two teams so the boys knew they had to work hard. The first match kicked off, we attacked from the go but BB defended well stopping anything getting to the goal. Jacob Crossland took a great corner just missing the net. The boys worked as a team and made excellent passes to each other. David Morrow found himself in front of the goals but the ball bounced off the post, it was a great shot. At half time the score was 0-0. Rees Havell suffered a twisted ankle while taking a goal kick and was unable to take part in the second half (hope its soon better Rees), and, as BB wouldn't allow us to use Lewis Braithwaite in both matches, MOTM Oliver Jenner had to take over. This left us a player short but it didn't stop the boys from trying they all worked their socks off. Thomas Rowan and Zach Butterworth made it very difficult for BB and Kieran Crosthwaite defended well. Oliver Jenner made a couple of great saves but was unable to stop BB from scoring. The final score 1 -0 to Brendon Bees. The second game started and West End realised that they had it all to do. Lewis Braithwaite made an amazing saves, and with outstanding team work Ryan Davies scored the first goal.Ola Odipe showed off some amazing footwork and handbrake turns to confuse BB. Just before the half time whistle BB equalise making it 1-1. BB came back out determined to score but due to great defending from Liam Stubbs and Jay Stringer they were unable to see the goal. Kieran Mc Teggart flew up and down the pitch bravely tackling the Bees. MOTM Lewis Campbell found himself in front of the nets and not to miss an opportunity scores the second goal which was quickly followed up with another. The final score was 3-1 to West End the total score for the cup game was 3-2 to West End. WELL DONE to all the players you all played fantastically.

27/02/10 - Wow where do I begin for this match? Today West End were facing Reddish Villa, and what a match it was, the list of goal scorers for WE was a long as a string of sausages. Jacob Crossland set the ball rolling with two fantastic goals in the first half and Zach Butterworth scored the third. James Shepherd defended well stopping Villa from scoring, Thomas Rowen put in some brilliant tackles and great passes. The half time score was 3-0 to WE. The best was yet to come! During the second half we saw Jacob Crossland score another two goals, David Morrow scored, Thomas Rowen scored, and MOTM Liam Stubbs scored his first goal for WE. Kieran Crosthwaite defended well, Ress Havell saved shot after shot, Villa managed to sneak in and score but they knew they couldn't catch up. Well done WE the final score was 8-1 to WE. The second game proved a little tougher, the first half saw lots of attacking but the ball couldn't seem to find the net. Excellant passing from Ryan Davies to Ola Odipe and Lewis Campbell. Great team work from Lewis Braithwaite and Jay Stringer who between them saved a shot. Reddish Villa scored the first goal of the match just before half time. The second half WE attacked and defended well Lewis Campbell after lots of attempts scores a great goal, this was quickly followed up by Jay Stringer who scored the second.Final score 2-1 to West End. Well done lads!!

06/03/10 - It was a late match today and it was against Denton Youth. The teams were on form today and the first match showed DY that we meant business. MOTM Kieran McTaggert started with an excellent goal. West End put the pressure on and did most of the attacking.Jacob Crossland made some great shots which the keeper managed to save. Ola Odipe defended well, West End worked well as a team. DY managed to score but this didn't stop the lads and Jacob Crossland came back with a goal just before half time. The second half was attack attack attack from West, DY did a lot of pushing and shoving which the ref didn't spot, I think he needs to eat more carrots to improve his eye sight!! Jay Stringer and Oliver Jenner worked hard in mid field and defence, Kieran Mc Taggert wouldn't let DY get to the ball. Jacob Crossland found himself in a perfect position and scored the third goal of the match. Well Done the final score 3 -1 to WE. The second game was a little tougher. Lewis Braithwait made an early save for WE. DY were on the attack but were unable to break through and score. David Morrow and Thomas Rowen made some fantastic passes to each other. Half time the score was 0-0. After a quick chat with the manager WE were ready to win and it didn't take MOTM Ryan Davies long to do what he does best and he scored the first and only goal. WE kept the DY keeper busy he saved shots for Zach Butterworth and David Morrow. The final score was 1-0 to West End.

13/03/10 - Dear oh dear oh dear what happened today?? It was like walking through the wardrobe doors and into Narnia, a completely different world (or game as the case was). We were against 3D Dynamos, both games - lost ahhh this was a shock to both teams today. Having said that both teams worked hard and didn't deserve to loose. The first match Thomas Rowen scored our one and only goal Well done Thomas! MOTM Liam Stubbs worked hard and covered the pitch well. We all thought David Morrow had scored but the ref disallowed it. Never mind lads, the final score was 3 -1 to 3D. The second game started well and Ryan Davies scored not long into the match. Fantastic goal Ryan! MOTM Goal keeper Lewis Braithwaite worked really hard keeping trying 3D's at bay but it wasn't to be today and the final score was 4 -1 to 3D Dynamos - Watch out we will not make it so easy for you in the cup final!!

27/03/10 - What a nice change to see the sun shinning this morning. West End were against Reddish Villa and we were short of players!! The whistle blew to start the match and before we could blink Ola Odipe scored the first goal. West End were on the attack, like a lion chasing a zebra they didn't stop and this was rewarded with Jay Stringer scoring the second goal. MOTM Rees Havell saved a powerful shot which made the half time score 2-0. Ryan Davies was the hero of the second half and scored two outstanding goals the first went in the top corner and the second was headed in over the keeper. Well done WE the final score was 4 - 0. The second match we had a switch-a-roo of players and Jay Stringer went in goals and Lewis Braithwait played out. Reddish Villa were given a free kick which Jay Stringer saved. There was great team work and excellent passing which allowed MOTM Jacob Crossland score the first goal, which he quickly followed up with a second. Half time score 2-0. During the second half RV had a goal disallowed as the ref had blown his whistle. Zach Butterworth and David Morrow had great shots at goal only to have them saved. Lewis Braithwait made the most of being out of nets this week and scored an amazing goal. MOTM Jacob Crossland hadn't finished clocking up his goals and scored his hat trick by neatly tucking the ball in to the net making the final score 4-0. WELL DONE to both teams.

03/04/10 - Early match again today and it was against Brendon Bees. The first match was slow to start and both teams attacked and defended well. Rees Havell made some great saves stopping BB from scoring. David Morrow, Thomas Rowen and Jacob Crossland all attacked well only to have their efforts saved. At half time the score was 0-0. Zach Butterworth opened the match with a great shot that just clipped the cross bar. MOTM Trey Kitchen defended well and he and Kieran Crosthwaite stopped the Bees from scoring. David Morrow stepped up a gear and made a break for it scoring the only goal of the match for West End to win 1 -0. Brendon Bees were not happy and they opened the second match by scoring two goals within minutes of each other. Lewis Braithwait made some outstanding saves. Lewis Campbell and Kieran McTaggert both defended well. At half time the score was 2-0 to BB. West End knew they had all the work to do in the second half and luck was on our side when BB scored an own gaol from a corner kick, this was the chance WE needed. Jay Stringer,Ryan Davies and Lewis Campbell worked hard to score while Ola Odipe and MOTM Oliver Jenner kept the BB defenders at bay. BB seemed to have lost their stride and kicked like donkeys, this chance was not missed by Lewis Campbell who made a quick run down the wing and scored the equalising goal taking the final score to 2-2. Well done to both teams as they all worked their socks off!

10/04/10 - What two fantastic games today against the old rivals Marple. West End were determined to win and started as they meant to go on. It was all attack, attack, attack and most of the team had had a shot at the nets only to have it saved. West End kept the game at a quick pace and passed the ball with skill to each other. All their hard work was soon rewarded when MOTM Jay Stringer scored the long awaited goal. During the second half Marple began to panic and pulled out all the stops to try and squeeze past the West End defenders - no chance, the team held them off until that final whistle blew and they won 1 -0. It was soon the turn of the next team and they were playing a grumpy Marple. It was a slow game to start but they soon picked up the pace and showed Marple who was boss. Jacob Crossland passed the ball to David Morrow who scored the first goal. The second half was full pushing, pulling and kicking from the Marple side who were desperately trying to get back in the match, but this didn't stop West End. Jacob Crossland went on to score an amazing goal, he took a corner kick and it went straight into the net. Marple could only stand and watch. MOTM Kieran Crosthwaite defended well stopping Marple in their tracks. We hadn't finished there David Morrow went on to score the third goal of the match taking the final score to 3 -0 to West End. Well done lads you all played really well today. From all the club, players and parents a huge big congratulations to Zach Butterworth and family on their new arrival Molly.

17/04/10 - Beautiful day today, sun shining and also Derby Day - everyone excited for both games!! First game started well - 2 beautiful goals from David Morrow, quickly followed by another from Jacob Crossland and a fantastic kick from the half way line from Thomas Rowen ensured it 4-0 at half time. Brendon Bees managed to scrape one back but a handball in the box gave us a penalty which MOTM Jacob Crossland converted excellently. Brendon Bees didnt really stand a chance in the game and David Morrow got his hat trick from a reboud ending the game 6-1. Well done. How different can two games be? West End Didnt really get into this match at all. Brendon Bees wouldnt give our boys an inch and try as we might we couldnt get the ball up the pitch. Two goals from BB ended the first half 0-2. We tried to keep our heads up and did battle on but the final whistle blew 0-3. Hard luck boys.

01/05/10 - It was the final match of the season and West End were facing Reddish Phoenix. The first game didn't start as planned with RP scoring in the opening minutes. This made WE wake up and swing into action. Ryan Davies headed the ball towards the nets but the keeper saved it. There was lots of attacking and great passing between the team, Trey Kitchen, Jay Stringer and Lewis Campbell, who were playing up front, made some great passes and their determination paid off when Jay Stringer scored the first goal. Lewis Braithwait made(as usual) some outstanding saves. Ola Odipe, Kieron McTeggert and Oliver Jenner worked hard to keep the ball away from WE nets. The half time score was 1-1. West End meant business during the second half and attacked RP defence which eventually crumbled and Lewis Campbell scored the all important second goal taking the full time score to 2-1. Time for the second game, WE defended for most of the first half and RP scored the first goal. MOTM Zach Butterworth took a free kick and it went just a little to wide of the net. Rees Havell made some excellent saves to stop RP from scoring again. Jacob Crossland, David Morrow and Thomas Rowen all worked their socks off to try and get the goal they needed. WE took a corner and David Morrow managed to squeeze himself through the defenders and edge the ball over the line, half time 1-1. During the second half the defenders Liam Stubbs and Kieron Crosthwaite were certainly kept on their toes, RP were determined to score and snaked their way through the WE team and put the ball into the net, (they celebrated like they had won, but watch out WE hadn't finished). Zach Butterworth made an amazing run from defence only to be stopped infront of the net, this showed RP that WE still had enough energy left for another goal. After great passing and brilliant team work Jacob Crossland scores the second goal. The final score 2-2.

WELL DONE WEST END you have had an amazing season!!!!

02/05/10 - First of all a HUGE Congratulations to West End Under 9 team for coming joint winners of the League with 3D Dynamos.. The Cup final was finally here. The team looked great in their new kit and were ready for action. They were playing against the joint winners of the league 3D Dynamos. They were both close games and West End worked, as always, as a strong team.  The first match kicked off and 3D scored in the first half of the match, WE battled back and David Morrow scored the first and only goal for WE. 3D managed to sneak another 2 taking the score to 1-3 to 3D. The second game WE had to work extra hard to try and close the gap, but it wasn't to be. Lewis Campbell scored the one and only goal of this match and 3D scored 2. All the players worked hard in both matches and give it their all to the final whistle. Well done West End they finished Cup Runners Up and joint winners of the League. True Champions.

06.09.09 - It’s back !!! The first day of the new season and all the expectations and high hopes it brings with it . We had already suffered a blow in the close season when the curse of the player of the season award struck again , with us losing Luke Hincks , to whom we all offer our best wishes at his new club . The fixture computer had thrown out an opening day clash against newly promoted Curzon Ashton at home on Mellands . With only six weeks to cut the grass it seems the groundsman had been far too busy on other tasks , as the grass was as long as it is in my garden , hardly conducive to our passing game. Lads , get your dictionaries out here comes the match report .The game was a war of attrition , with both sides trying to break each other down and struggling to create any clear cut chances and it was obvious it was going to take something special to win the match .Both teams had two decent penalty claims each in the first half but the ref was having none of it . Curzon had their very own Rory Delap and he took every opportunity to launch the ball into the box , but West End coped admirably when even Premiership teams had struggled to deal with the very same tactics . At half time Tom Corbett was still having difficulty overcoming a virus and Ben Hancock had to drop back to centre half to replace Tom , where he put in a MOM performance . At nil-nil our ‘keeper James Royle was quick off his line to block an almost certain goal , and soon after with just ten minutes to go came the moment of brilliance to clinch the match . Cam Pugh won a free kick approximately 25 yards from goal ,up stepped Lewis O’Connor whose dipping , curling effort sailed into the top corner , emulating his strike against Droylsden in the pre-season friendly , proving it was by no means fortuitous . As Curzon pushed for the equaliser gaps appeared at the back and Kurt Hives and Lewis O’Connor both had opportunities to seal the victory but were thwarted by the ‘keeper. It was a tough game , and the defence was outstanding keeping Curzon Ashton’s chances to a minimum , well done Tom Corbett , Danny Gregg , Dillon D’Ambrosio , George Hunt and MOM Ben Hancock.

13.09.09 - Fortunately I was on holiday for this match , and will have to rely on eye witness accounts for the report . Allegedly , we had some really good spells in the game where we passed it well and held the ball . At half time it was all to play for at 1 nil , but unfortunately due to some individual errors we conceded some easy goals . We were unable to trouble their big centre half and all though we had good possession we had few opportunities to score . George “Eggy” Hunt was as usual composed at left back and picked up MOM for a steady display.

20.09.09 - We had to arrange an early kick off due to some football match happening in the afternoon . Ben Hancock had to deputise at centre half as Danny Gregg was unavailable and we couldn’t have had a better start as Kurt Hives burst through the centre of the Waterloo defence after 2 minutes to give us the lead calmly slotting past the ‘keeper low into the corner. This was the first and last thing that went for us in the match!! For the next fiftenn minutes West End dominated the game with some slick pass and movement but a nasty head injury to make shift centre back Ben Hancock meant another reshufflewith Cameron Pugh dropping back. The lads found it hard to adjust and Waterloo gained a foothold in the game with a well taken equaliser. Just before half time some indecision in the defence lead to Waterloo taking the lead. It was a cruel blow as we had performed well in the first half. In the second half West End struggled to pass the ball well with lots of passes going astray , Hadley Gooding proved his versatility firstly playing in front of the back four and then dropping into centre half to replace Cam Pugh. Kurt Hives MOM was taking the game to Waterloo with some mazy runs, but was often isolated as we failed to get men forward to support him. Again we contributed to our own demise when errors saw Waterloo grab two more goals to put them fimly in the driving seat . A great run from Luca Brennan created a late chance for Lewis O’Connor to pull one back but he fired wide from a tight angle. A lack of confidence is creeping into our game with players needing that extra touch that gives the opposition time to close down, but we will pick ourselves up and look to improve this in the next game.

27.09.09 - Ahhhh , the magic of the Cup , after two consecutive defeats in the League , the County Cup offered a welcome respite from the rigours of the League . We were drawn against Didsbury Juniors , from the Stockport Metro Division One . West End started off well , as they did last week , and had the better off the first half , with battling performances from Brad Dewhurst and Hadley Gooding in midfield . Nil – nil at half time and the team was looking to push on and make the pressure count . The second half continued in much the same vein with West End having the better chances with Conor Street unlucky not to break the deadlock , when he fired wide from an acute angle . Football is a cruel mistress and we paid the price for our profligacy in front of goal when in the last minute Didsbury’s right winger , who had been a thorn in our side , left three players in his wake , and picked out the perfect cross , to leave the forward the easy task of firing home , unfortunately we didn’t the same ref as in the Manchester derby so we didn’t get seven extra minutes to score , and the whistle went as soon as we took the centre. The lads put in a battling performance and on any other day we would have gone through to the next round . MOM went to ‘keeper James Royle , which would indicate that Didsbury kept him busy , but this was not the case . James , who had two great games for Audenshaw during the week has grown in confidence , and picked up the coveted award for his communication , quick decision making at coming off his line and distribution which helped the defenders out and meant he didn’t have to make many saves . Well done James. This is our worse run of results since we started the team , but we will train hard and hopefully we will get the break we need to get that elusive victory.

04.10.09 - Another week , another cup and another chance for glory in the Primary Cup . James Royle failed a late fitness test and Ben Hancock , already an early candidate for player of the season , deputised in net . The team’s recent performances have not been reflected in their results and today they were up against a much bigger team physically ,but this didn’t phase the lads who went into the game with confidence and were the much better team in first half with the defence , in particular Conor Street at right back , limiting the opposition to very few chances . It was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken , as Lewis O’Connor burst through the centre of the defence and in a one on one , the Clayton ‘keeper made a great save only for Luca Brennan to force the ball home in the ensuing scramble 1 - nil West End . Lewis O’Connor was involved in the second goal , as he followed a high ball into the box and was wrestled to the ground by the ‘keeper as he challenged for the dropping ball . George Hunt calmly stepped up and slotted the penalty low into the corner 2 – nil West End . We could and should have put the match out of sight as the we won the physical battle of the midfield , in particular Brad Dewhurst , but again we failed to convert numerous chances . Clayton started the second half strong and one of their midfielders was booked after three dubious challenges indicating their intentions to win back the midfield , but the game turned on the ref’s decision to award Clayton a penalty for an innocuous looking tackle from Danny Greg , who looked to have taken the ball cleanly . 2 – 1 . West End dominated the game and again had chances to put the game out of reach , and failed to do so and once again it proved costly as Clayton scored on the break and doggedly held on to force the game into a penalty shoot out . Oh dear , anyone who has watched our previous penalty shoot outs knows we were going into it as underdogs and we didn’t disappoint , losing out 4- 2 , despite being the much better team throughout the match . Well done MOM Brad Dewhurst for a combative performance and some clever through balls from midfield . Bring on the Divisional Cup !!!!

11.10.09 - The team badly needed a win to boost confidence , but this was going to prove very difficult with a team decimated by injuries and illness , leaving us only ten players to field against Brendon Bees . The task was made all the more difficult , as by the time the team had found its formation , they were two goals down . The first after five minutes, a shot from the left side of the box high into the net , and the second after ten minutes a free header from a corner , once again our Achilles heel . This seemed to galvanize West End into action and from a Cam Pugh’s corner make-shift centre half Luca Brennan adjusted his body to chest an awkward ball into the net . Of the two teams the Bees were more than happy to see half time as they couldn’t cope with West End’s slick passing and quick movement. The second half continued in the same vein and it wasn’t long before the equaliser came , Lewis O’Connor’s right wing cross was half cleared to Cam Pugh who gratefully rifled the ball passed the despairing ‘keeper , 2 – 2 . With our recent fitness training paying dividends it looked like the Bees had ten men not us , with midfield dynamo Hadley Gooding holding the midfield with Brad Dewhurst . Kurt Hives and Lewis O’Connor were running amok down the right hand side with some almost telepathic link up play , and it was Lewis O’Connor’s adroit pass that set Kurt Hives free to finish sublimely . 3 – 2 West End . With time running out Brendon Bees grabbed a late equaliser , and the final score finished 3 – 3 but West End were outstanding and there aren’t enough superlatives to describe their performance . With a performance like this a win is only around the corner .MOM went to Ben “safe hands” Hancock who put in an excellent performance between the posts organising the defence , and setting up attacks with some pinpoint kicks , and was inconsolable after the late equaliser.

18.10.09 - It’s been a long time coming but we finally picked up our second win of the season and in some style too ! After last week’s gallant performance the lads trained well mid-week and were really up for this game . Right from the off it was one way traffic with West End continuing where they left off last week with some brilliant interchanges of passing creating chances for |Lewis O’Connor , who was unable to take full advantage of two one on ones , and the woodwork coming to the rescue of Tameside Villa from a blistering effort from Brad Dewhurst . It was only a matter of time before the floodgates opened and Kurt Hives started the rout with a smart finish after 15 minutes , and Cameron Pugh reacted quickly soon after to slide home the second , 2 - nil West End . Into the second half and Kurt Hives grabbed his second from close range , cutting in from the left and beating the ‘keeper at the near post . Lewis O’Connor finally got his goal with a swerving shot that deceived the ‘keeper , 4 - nil West End . Not to be outdone Cam Pugh grabbed his second with a fine move starting at the back from ‘keeper James Royle to George Hunt who played the ball to Tom Corbett who slipped the ball into the path of Cam Pugh who hit the ball first time high into the net , 5 – nil West End . Tom Corbett then opened his account for the season with a fine strike low into the corner , and with Hives and Pugh on a hat trick , they both didn’t disappoint . Hives was now running riot down the right side as he jinked passed the full back and fired a thunder bolt across the ‘keeper into the top left hand corner and Cam Pugh replied with a ingenious right foot curler passed a dejected Tameside ‘keeper 8 – nil West End . Conor Street was a candidate for MOM with an outstanding performance at right back making the position his own , but the coveted award went to Kurt Hives who was the tormentor-in-chief of the Tameside defence , with his non stop running , close control and clinical finishing . Well done Kurt , make sure you get that money off your dad !!!

14.03.10 - West End have encountered a mini revival of late , unbeaten in 2 matches they put Mossley to the sword , taking a 4 nil lead into the second half , they withstood some early second half pressure with MOM Luca Brennan outstanding in the centre of defence , and pushed on to collect all three points with another three goals with the best of the bunch coming from long range strikes from Hadley Gooding  and Brad Dewhurst . Lewis O'Connor bagged a brace , Brad Dewhurst got 2 also and Ben Hancock , Kurt Hives and the aforementioned Hadley Gooding completed the rout.

21.03.10 - West End had to recover from an early setback to maintain their unbeaten run against Clayton , they started the better team but conceded a soft headed goal from a corner , but the lads are made of stern stuff and Luca Brennan restored parity with a cooly taken pen after Lewis O'Connor was bundled over in the box . Lewis O'Connor once again turned provider sending a low cross for Cameron Pugh leaving Cam the easiest task of side footing home 2-1 .Lewis was a constant threat and with the midfielders taking over the game it was only a matter of time before Lewis was on the score sheet , Ben Hancoock slipped a sublime pass through the defence and Lewis raced through and blasted high into the net 3-1 and half time . Earlier in the season the lads let a 2 goal half time advantage slip against Clayton , to see us dumped unceremoniously out of the cup , but there was to be no such hiccups today , the next goal was crucial and we got it through Lewis O'Connor 4-1. This cushion allowed us to knock it about and with Brad Dewhurst picking up MOM for winning a very physical battle in central midfield we dominated the game with Lewis O'Connor rounding the 'keepr to grab a hatrick , not to be out done Cameron Pugh swept a right wing cross high into the net and then nodded another home to help himself to a hatrick as well . Clayton pulled one back but it was too little too late as the boys hit seven for the second time in a week , and carried on their ascent up the league , finally getting the results their performances merited . With a squad of only twelve players the lads are working their proverbials off every week now , well done again for a great performance.

08/09/09 - The long awaited first game for the boys came against a Medlock team that had won their opening fixture against Romiley Vipers (6-0). After a fairly mild day the heavens opened with the referees whistle, and one stage during the first half it would have been no surprise had the game been abandoned but thankfully the rain relented to ‘gale’ proportions and the game carried on. With some players still struggling for fitness after holidays and injuries the team pretty much picked itself and it was Joe Powell who would be the first player to score for the ‘new’ team as he followed up his own effort to head the ball over the keeper and into the empty net to give his team the lead, with the boys totally dominant in the first half but struggling to grab a second goal Nathan Brooke was thrown up front for his debut with Joe dropping into midfield. ‘Brooky’ soon showed his new team mates what he was capable of by firstly holding off a challenge from two defenders before laying the ball into Aaron’s path for the second goal before half time. Early in the second half a great bit of interplay between Mitch and Nathan saw ‘Brooky’ grab the goal his play deserved meaning we could safely give all the squad a run out, and although the boys were not as good at keeping their shape with all the changes, they did grab further goals through Brad and a second from Nathan to give the boys a five goal win. A good all round display from the boys giving them a great start in the 2nd Division, man of the match was given to Nathan. Goals from Nathan 2, Joe P, Aaron, Brad.

13/09/09 - A good test for the boys today, having missed a couple of early chances to take the lead the defence then gifted the visitors two goals meaning that we would see how this new team would react to the pressure of being behind. We had no need for concern as strikers Nathan and Mitch brought the scores level and before half time Brad had scored two, Nathan had added another and Jordan opened his account for the club with a screamer from 25 yards to give the boys a comfortable half time lead. All the subs were given a full second half as we used the roll on roll off system to give all players time on the pitch. The second half was dominated by our boys and although the chances were not as forthcoming as the first half, Nathan grabbed a couple more to score the first hat-trick of the season soon followed by Brad who scored with a great header from a peach of a cross from Mitch whilst Aaron scored a nice solo effort to round off our scoring. Another good all round display from the boys continuing their great start in the 2nd Division, man of the match was given to Mitch. Golas from Nathan 4, Brad 3, Aaron, Jordan, Mitch.

27/09/09 - A very good advert for football at this age today, a keenly contested affair between our boys and first division Dynamos, a bright start saw our boys create a couple of early chances which the visitors keeper kept out, as he would do for pretty much the rest of the game. The visitors scored the first goal of the game which was not only against the run of play but also at least 2 yards ‘offside’, the fact that it stood was harder to bear considering the amount of times our boys had created great openings with some lovely ‘give and goes’ around the edge of the box only to be given offside, on one occasion however after Harrison had won a ball in his own half and fed ‘Brooky’, Nathan then played a great ball into Brad’s feet and he calmly slotted a beauty into the far corner to take the teams into the break level. At half time we asked the boys to be more direct in their play and eventually they would score the second goal their play deserved. The boys went on to dominate the chances in the second half but some great shot stopping from the visitors keeper, some wayward finishing and several more ‘offside’ whistles made it look like we were not going to get another goal, that is until Jordan decided to match his ‘cracker’ from the last game and sent a screamer into the top corner which even dynamos keeper wasn’t going to save. As the game drew towards a close, ‘Brooky’ was denied a couple of goals by two great saves, both he and Jordan appeared to be fouled in the area without getting a decision, and after Dynamos had their only shot on target of the second half, which Dominic managed to tip onto the post, the visiting forward scrambled the ball home to force ‘extra time’. The added time saw our boys create more chances but again came up against a keeper in top form and the inevitable penalty shootout was to bring misery as the visitor’s keeper saved all four of our kicks to put his team into the hat for the next round. A very good display from ALL the boys today, with Joe Powell just shading the man of the match award. Goals: Brad Delves, Jordan Delves.

04/10/09 - A strange performance from the boys today, whether it was because there were several changes to the team or because they were playing a team that were a division below them, either way they didn’t play anywhere near as well as they had done last week, so the fact that they are through to the next round is a bonus. Regular substitutes Ellis and Rhys started a game for the first time this season as did Joe Brennan after a pre-season injury, with Brad, Nathan and David making way. The ‘tigers’ had the better chances in the first half and thankfully Dominic was in good form in nets as he made a couple of very good stops before at last the boys strung more than one pass together before ‘Az’ struck a fine opening goal after good work from Mitch. The visiting keeper made a couple of good saves of his own before the boys fell to a ‘sucker’ punch with an equaliser just before the half time whistle. The second half saw the introduction of Nathan, Brad and Dave and fairly soon 'Brooky' was in the thick of the action and slotted our second under the advancing keeper, in fairness to the visitors they kept plugging away but slowly and surely our boys started to pass the ball around as we know they can and ‘Brooky’ grabbed his second hat trick of the season, the third a great diving header from an equally good cross from Mitch, with the twins Jordan and Brad both getting on the score sheet again. The visiting keeper made several very good saves again in the second half to save the result being completely one sided, which would have been totally unfair on his team mates after their gallant effort, all in all the boys deserved their win but will need to cut out the poor decision making that happened throughout the game today if they are going to be successful this season. Goals: Nathan 3, Aaron, Jordan, Brad.

11/10/09 - Another win for the boys today, and strangely enough several players were below par but the real strength of this squad is that they are working together as a unit and the boys that are coming on as ‘sub’ are doing a good job when asked. After a couple of missed chances early in the game Joe Powell scored from close range to give the boys the lead, only for Chaddy to score with their first attack to bring the scores level. The boys made a few more chances before taking a couple through top scorer Nathan Brooke to make the half time score three one. The second half saw Joe Powell curl a beauty into the top corner for his second of the game, Jordan grabbed a goal and ‘Brooky’ scored his third hat trick of the season, whilst all the squad got some good ‘pitch time’ in. One of the ‘subs’ Rhys Picken, playing in the centre of midfield, had his best game for the team so far, topping his performance with a great strike into the corner for his first goal for the club to round off the scoring as the boys won their third league game on the trot to move back to the top of the league on goal difference but with games in hand on all their rivals.Man of the match: Rhys Picken, Goals: Nathan 3, Joe P 2, Jordan, Rhys.

18/10/09 - Today saw the boys pitched against the ‘new boys’ East Central, who were playing their second game of the season having joined the league late, with Harrison Hughes calling off injured Rhys kept his place after his ‘man of the match performance last week. The first real chance of the game went the way of the visitors as they hit the bar with a strike from about 25 yards with Dominic nowhere near it, although within a couple of minutes the boys grabbed a couple of goals to calm any nerves they had as Mitch Hales struck a nice goal as did Joe Powell a few moments later. The twins were next in on the act as first Brad and then Jordan Delves gave the boys a healthy lead and just for good measure, Mitch grabbed a first half hat trick with two more strikes before half time, the pleasing thing about all the goals was that the ‘build up’ play was all about good passing and movement. With our squad not being the biggest in the league we made sure that the two lads on the line, Joe Brennan and Ellis Hughes both got on in the first half and both played their part in the goals that were scored in the second half, Joe having a hand in both whilst Ellis grabbed his first of the season. The only disappointment was that the visitors scored two goals late in the game to deny Dominic his second clean sheet of the campaign although he almost saved them both. A good overall team performance today with several candidates for man of the match but the vote goes to Captain Paul Garnett for another commanding display at centre half.

25/10/09 - Another win today for the boys in their first away game of the campaign after 4 straight home fixtures, the game was against Failsworth Dynamos Juniors who's pitch was slightly small compared to most but had by far the best playing surface we will play on this season. The first half saw the boys carve out several chances before Mitch Hales placed a fine shot into the corner to give his side the lead, the home team played some nice football in the middle of the pitch and our midfield three of Aaron, Jordan and Rhys had to work hard to gain control of the centre to allow Joe Powell and Brad to run at the defenders down the sides. A quick burst of goals before half time saw 'Brooky' and Joe P (2) put the boys in charge at the break, and with our defence cleaning up what chances the home team did create it looked like it would take something special to turn the game around. With only 13 players available it was important to make sure all got a good deal of pitch time again today, but again although the ‘fresh’ players are not to blame, it appears that the changes affect the way the team play and the home team started to get into the game for a spell in the second half during which they grabbed a goal. The boys got their game back to something like their best and created several chances again only to either miss them or find the keeper in good form, before a great move involving several players ended with 'Az' squaring for Joe to clinch his second hat trick of the season with a cool finish to end the scoring although Dominic pulled off a remarkable double save to keep the score down before the end. Another good overall team performance today with several candidates for man of the match but the vote goes to Joe Powell for three tidy finishes and an all round good performance. Man of the match: Joe Powell. Goals:Joe P 3, Mitch, Nathan.

22/11/09 - The boys kept up their winning run with another victory over Failsworth Dynamos Juniors in a game hastily re-arranged to the Failsworth Soccer Centre due to our pitch being called off, the game was as usual played in good spirit between the two teams on a good surface considering the recent weather, unfortunately the game was ended a few minutes early after our captain Paul Garnett suffered a serious shoulder injury which required the Ambulance Service to attend. The first half was a very close affair with our boys making and missing several chances, Nathan did manage to head home a good cross from Jordan to give his team the lead, although it has to be said that our keeper Dominic made several very good saves to make sure our boys turned around at half time still in the lead. The second half saw a couple of changes made to formation with Harrison moving into the centre of midfield and Cameron coming on to take up his usual left back slot. Joe Powell turned his man on the edge of the box and curled a shot into the top corner which the keeper, although getting his hand to the ball, just couldn’t keep it out and fairly soon Harrison was in the thick of the action first winning a strong challenge and then sending a beauty of a ball through for ‘Brooky’ to notch his second, Brad grabbed a fourth from a quick throw-in by Mitch as the boys took control of the game. Towards the end of the game Paul went into a challenge with the big Dynamos centre forward and unfortunately as they both fell to the ground paul suffered a shoulder injury, and as he was unable to move or be moved an ambulance was called meaning that the game had to come to an early end. Our thanks go to the parents, players and staff of Failsworth who were very thoughtful and helpful as Paul was very distressed by his injury and had to stay on a very wet pitch for over 45 minutes whilst the ambulance arrived by which time it was agreed to let the result stand. Another good overall team performance today with several candidates for man of the match particularly Harrison Hughes who had a big impact in the second half, but the vote goes to keeper Dominic Milligan whose saves in both halves kept his team in the game at crucial times earning him a well deserved clean sheet. Man of the match: Dominic Milligan. Goals: Nathan 2, Joe P, Brad.

24/01/10 - The boys finally got to play another fixture, only their third in three months, and the break showed in the final score. With both Nathan and Harrison missing the shape of the team was changed and with it the ‘dynamic’. An early goal from Mitch would normally have seen the boys take control of a game, and so it seemed when Brad scored twice to give the boys a three goal cushion after 25 minutes. The visitors kept pushing forward when they scored directly from a free kick to reduce the arrears, and then a few minutes later grabbed a second to put some pressure on our boys. Aaron scored his first goal of the year to restore the two goal lead shortly before half time. The second half saw the introduction of Todd Gibson, making his debut as he replaced the injured Joe Brennan, but the boys didn’t seem to be able to get on top of the opposition, whether it was the good play from the visitors, the long break or the state of the pitch, we may never know, but once again Curzon scored to bring themselves in with a shout. Another change saw Max Cole also make his debut, which meant Todd pushed up front and not long after he made a very telling contribution as he headed a beauty of a ball, after some great individual skill from ‘Az’, into the path of Mitch, who made no mistake to once again give the boys a two goal cushion. To the visitors credit they kept on pushing and grabbed another with almost the last kick of the match making them the first team to outscore our boys in a second half this season. A good game today between two evenly matched sides, with some good performances from our boys after a long lay off, particularly captain Paul Garnett who led by example, and keeper Dominic who made several outstaying saves in the second half

04/02/10 - Not a great performance from the boys tonight, but in their defence the game was played on an ‘all weather surface’ after yet another weekend without a game, and several players were not fully fit, so another 3 points, which takes them clear at the top of the league, is most welcome. Harrison Hughes and Nathan Brooke were both back in the starting eleven, and with a very strong bench of Joe Brennan, Rhys Picken and Todd Gibson on paper a decent performance was expected, the problem is that football isn’t played on paper and after the home team had hit the bar after 7 seconds it was obvious that things were not going to go to plan. The first half saw the boys make and miss enough chances to put the game away before the break but as usual in these cases the home team took the lead against the run of play, the best bit of news was that the boys put together a great move which saw ‘Az’ play Brad in to equalise almost immediately. The second half saw the boys take charge of the game without ever looking as though they were going to score enough goals to be ‘comfortable’ and after ‘Az’ had put them in front with a good strike from the edge of the box after a nice lay off from Mitch, they did just enough to see the game out. The ‘home’ team were a completely different side from the one that the boys had beaten earlier in the season, and if they play for the rest of the season like they did tonight, they will certainly pick up a few wins along the way.Not too many great performances from our boys tonight, but Mitch ran his defenders ragged and had a hand in both goals to earn the ‘man of the match’ award.

14/02/10 - A very good TEAM performance from the boys today, stripped to the bare bones with injuries and holidays we only had eleven for the kick off, but this squad is proving very resilient and with several players playing ‘out of position’ any fears that the team wouldn’t be strong enough were eased after Joe Powell got himself on the end of a great through ball from Aaron Longden to slot home at the second attempt. As the boys grew stronger and even though the pitch condition wasn’t helping them to play the type of football they are capable of, the put together another good move which saw Jordan delves smash a great second goal into the top corner to give the boys a comfortable half time lead. The talk at half time was about conserving energy and to be more confident in front of goal as several chances had been missed due to hesitancy in the first half.A couple of changes in formation saw the boys take the game to the visitors and from one flowing move involving six players the ball found its way to the edge of the box where Rhys Picken arrived to smack home a great goal into the top corner for his second for the club.Nathan Brooke arrived just after the break (having played basketball earlier) and was introduced with half an hour to go and almost immediately created a chance which was well saved by the Meadway keeper. The keeper denied Joe his second but the ball fell kindly for ‘brooky’ to hit the fourth and final goal of the game. The boys have now played 10 games and have won them all, but each week the challenge is getting harder as every team wants to be the first to topple them. A great all round performance today with several outstanding performances but for his second half drive and overall effort Mitch Hales is today’s man of the match.

28/02/10 - A hard game for the boys today against a strong, physical and determined Glossop side and also a very uneven surface that stifled their ability to pass the ball around as we know they can.The first half saw both sides struggle with the pitch and not too much flowing football was played by either team, although on the few occasions that the boys did manage to pass the ball around they created a couple of good chances which unfortunately were wasted as we witnessed the first goal less half of the season so far.A couple of changes at half time saw Nathan Brooke return to action, and with Harrison sitting in the centre of midfield we started to cause the visiting defenders far more problems. Not too long into the half ‘brooky’ nodded a great goal from a tremendous cross from Brad Delves to give the boys the lead following which they finally started to pass the ball around with ease.A fantastic piece of skill from Mitch Hales saw him leave his defender for dead and cut the ball back for Nathan to score his second, and fairly quickly he reacted to a quick free kick from 'Az' to pull the ball back for Joe Powell to put the tie beyond Glossop. The visitors did pull a goal back towards the final whistle after our defence ‘switched off’ at a throw in but fortunately the game was already won by then. Overall a good team performance again from the boys today, with several individuals allowing the visitors physical approach and the poor playing conditions to put them off their game, with Mitch Hales being given the man of the match by the opposing manager.

07/03/10 - Another hard game for the boys today against a Glossop side that, with several new faces, appeared even bigger than last week, and they were definitely looking to avenge their defeat last week. The first half was again a battle of different styles, as the visitors were happy to win the ball and send it long hoping for a chance to fall to them in our half, whilst we were trying to play the ball to feet, although with the heavy pitch it wasn’t working too often, although on the few occasions we did play the ball around the boys created clear goal scoring opportunities only to prove wasteful in front of the visitors net. As with last weeks game, it took a couple of changes to the formation to enable our boys to break down the opposition, with Mitch dropping into midfield and the ‘twins’ going out wide to the wings we started to push forward with better intentions. After one great move which resulted in a corner, Harrison crashed a great header against the bar with Mitch unable to force the loose ball passed the keeper as the half ended goal less. The second half saw the boys take a firm grip on the game, and eventually a sweet strike from Jordan found its way into the bottom corner to give the boys the lead they deserved and soon after he took on his fullback and pulled a good ball back for Todd Gibson to finish well only for the whistle to deny him his first goal for the club. Joe Powell grabbed another goal from another good move shortly after and Todd got the goal he deserved as the other ‘twin’ Brad went on a great run down the right wing and pulled a great across for him to sweep home to put the result beyond doubt. A very good performance from the whole squad today with all getting some good pitch time in, several very good individual performances with Mitch, Jordan, Brad, Nathan and Paul in the running, but man of the match was given to Harrison Hughes who was immense throughout.

14/03/10 - A good football game was expected today between two sides that appear to be evenly matched, and when we arrived it looked like the pitch would be good for a ‘passing’ game as it was almost all green which is a contrast to what the boys have been playing on recently, but unfortunately it proved to be very uneven and with the wind playing a big part, the game never really got to be spectacle we wanted. The boys did what was required to get a result, playing the majority of their football in the opposing half, and clearing their lines well at the other end. Dominic in goal had almost nothing to do in the first half whilst at the other end the boys were creating several chances one of which, created after a great bit of skill from Mitch, saw Nathan nod in at the far post to give the boys the lead their possession deserved. The second half saw pretty much the same fare, although the boys were making more chances and with a little more composure in front of goal would have had more than ‘Brooky’s’ second goal to show for their efforts. With the game well under our boys control Dominic had to be at his best to foil firstly a ‘one on one’ and then to save at his near post to keep his second clean sheet on the trot. Overall it was a good game today with another 3 points tucked safely in the bag, and with closest rivals Medlock being awarded a win today, they still need to win a few more games to clinch promotion at the end of the season. A very good team performance with several very good individual performances, with Cameron, Harrison, Dominic and Nathan in the running, but man of the match was given to Mitch who tormented the home defence throughout the game. Man of the match: Mitch Hales.Goals: Nathan 2.

21.03.10 - As usual when these two teams meet, a good sporting game of football game today, with hardly a stoppage throughout which was testament not just to the teams but also a very good refereeing display from late ‘stand-in’ referee Chris Brayshaw who allowed the game to flow. With ‘brooky’ unavailable and the twins running late, Rhys Picken started his first game for a while Max Cole started his first game for the team and Joe Brennan returned following injury. The boys started really brightly and maybe should have scored twice within the first few minutes only for the visitors to take the lead the first time they ventured into our half with the a smart finish after some hesitancy at the back. The boys carried on in the same vein and the equaliser wasn’t long in coming as Joe Powell took advantage of similar defensive problems at the other end, soon after Mitch scored his first goal for a while to give his team the lead only for the visitors to level within a few minutes. Mitch grabbed his second before half time after some great flowing football to take the boys into the break a goal up. The second half was even closer with both teams playing some neat football and with both keepers making some decent saves in what was a very good advert for football at this age, although with neither team managing a goal it is our boys that will meet Romiley Vipers in the Semi-final. A really good game today between two good sides, with several of our boys putting in their best performance of the season, Max and Joe B took their opportunity to show what they are capable of, whilst Mitch grabbed two good goals and had yet another good game to be voted ‘man of the match’ by the opposition. Man of the match: Mitch Hales Goals: Mitch 2, Joe P 1.

28.03.10 - First things first, congratulations to the boys today on clinching promotion to the 1st Division in their first season together, as they can now only be caught by one team, so now the hard work is to finish the job and take the title over the last four games. Back to the game which was played on a good surface on the top of a hill with fantastic views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside, unfortunately we were playing against a gale force wind, and before we knew it the home team had scored, as a long ball over the top was crossed in for the opener within 10 seconds. Unbelievably two more balls over the top saw the home team three goals up and we hadn’t even seen five minutes of football. We got the message to the boys that they had to win the ball and then keep it on the floor and slowly but surely they started to take control of the half and with every player starting to win their personal battles the boys started to make some chances. A great move saw Mitch played in behind his defender and a smart back heel saw him create the space to slide the ball square for Brooky to slot home from close range, and with the midfield of Aaron, Jordan, Joe P and Joe B starting to stretch their opposition more space was being created for our wide men to get forward, from one such break David put in a cross which Mitch crashed home a tremendous volley. As the half drew to a close the boys were given a free kick about twenty yards out, unfortunately Mitch’s kick was too high but for once the wind was in our favour and held the ball up and dropped it into Brooky’s path, via the cross bar, to tap in for an equaliser that had been coming. As usual in these circumstances, having played the wind for an entire half, the weather turned and the wind almost died to give neither side an advantage in the second half, and then against the run of play the home team scored from their first real attack of the half to put the boys behind again. The boys continued to play their football and scored a great equaliser when Cameron slung over a cross and Brad dived in at the far post to bring the scores level again. Unfortunately for us that was the end of the scoring; although Dominic made sure that we kept our point with a point blank save towards the end having had almost nothing to do in the entire half. Not the best spectacle today, with the weather the only winner, although it has to be said that as a squad of players the boys showed tremendous character to come back fro three goals down within five minutes, several of the boys will know that they can play much better but there were some very good performances too with the opposition giving particular praise to Mitch, Harrison and Joe B, with Joe shading the ‘man of the match’ award. Man of the match: Joe Brennan Goals: Nathan 2, Mitch 1, Brad 1.

04/04/10 - The first defeat of the season for the boys today, after a run of 18 games, as they bowed out of the Challenge Cup against First Division leaders Moston with a score line that doesn’t do either the match or our boy’s justice. The pitch was in great shape and looked very much like it would suit the boys attacking football and so it proved as they set about the home side from the first whistle, creating several good chances before the ‘blues’ had a chance to get in the game. The home side showed why they have been at the top of the First Division all season, playing some great football of their own but with the back four all playing well, particularly Jordan playing out of position at left back, and the midfield winning and keeping the ball it was our team that kept testing the home keeper, whilst Dominic didn’t have to make a single save in the half. Having hit the woodwork on three separate occasions, the goal that had been promised eventually arrived as David won a strong tackle and fed the ball forward to Mitch who in turn laid a great ball into Brad who went passed his man and smashed a cracker into the far corner to give his team the lead. Having had to make a couple of changes at half time the boys lost some momentum going into the start of the half and following a mix-up in the middle, the home side scored with their first real shot of the game to bring the scores level. In a ‘game of two halves’ the home team then went on to create the majority of the chances and although Dominic made at least four outstanding saves he was beaten on three other occasions, whilst at the other end our boys made enough chances to take the game into extra time, but came up against a keeper in good form too. No great shame in losing today, but the boys know that had they taken their chances, especially in the first half, it would have probably been them in the semi final, hopefully a big lesson learned for the last few games of the season. A great game of football today, between two sides that played some fantastic football and allowed the other team to play too, hardly a foul in the game that was well refereed by Chris Bega, a truly great advert for football at this age. A hard pick for man of the match today with almost every player playing at their best, but the vote goes to keeper Dominic who was in outstanding form today. Man of the match: Dominic Milligan Goals: Brad 1

11/04/10 - A ’top of the table’ clash today between our unbeaten team and Medlock Rangers who had only lost once, in the first game between the two sides earlier in the season. Another game in which the wind played a big part, but today the boys showed that they had learned from their mistakes at Glossop and despite choosing to play against the wind in the first half, they more or less controlled the majority of the game. The first half saw the home team playing a very much ‘long’ ball game, defending well and clearing their lines quickly and cleanly, giving Nathan and Mitch very little in the way of chances, and although our boys defended well in the main, they were indebted to a fantastic one handed save from Dominic to keep the scores level at the break. Having weathered the wind and the long ball of the first half, our boys started To pass the ball around much better in the second half, and with the home keepers kicks not reaching the halfway line our midfield got into the game a lot more, one clearance was intercepted by Joe Brennan and when the ball broke to Aaron he smashed a beauty in to the net from around 25 yards to give his team the lead. The belief that the goal brought was there for all to see, and the boys started to play the ball around even better and from that they scored another, as a great ball from Paul saw Brad take on his man and square a great ball for Nathan to slot home for the second. The only blip on a very good team performance came when the home side was awarded a penalty with a few minutes left on the clock, and although Dominic yet again saved the spot kick, his team mates let him down by allowing the home player a clean strike at the rebound to reduce the arrears for his team. The boys settled themselves and saw out the remaining minutes to claim a very big win against their only rivals for the title and with a similar performance in the game on Thursday night they can clinch the title in their first season together. A good game today, between two sides that were committed to the cause, without a single bad challenge throughout the game that was well refereed by Matthew Hobin. Although several players played well, particularly in the second half, the vote for man of the match goes to keeper Dominic who was in outstanding form again today.Man of the match: Dominic Milligan. Goals: Aaron 1, Nathan 1

15/04/10 - A good victory tonight for the boys, a little light on numbers with Joe Powell injured and top scorer Nathan only available for the first half, the squad showed their determination to clinch the title as soon as possible with a display that was rewarded with all three points. A hard pitch, a cold night, a blustery wind and a determined home team gave the boys a tough task, and for the first 15 minutes of the game it was Chaddy End who were forcing the issue, albeit without really testing Dominic in goal. With Jordan once again filling in at the back, Cameron was enjoying the freedom allowed to him playing out wide on the left, and after a quickly taken free kick from Mitch found him in space, he whipped in a tremendous cross for Brooky to rise and head a beauty into the top corner for the opening goal. Several chances were created and missed including a Joe Brennan shot that was cleared off the line and a free kick from Mitch that was tipped onto the bar as the boys took control, but they went into the half time break just one goal to the good. Mitch had a chance to double that lead within 10 seconds of the restart but the chance went the way of several others before Aaron rose to head the second from a quality cross from Brad. The home team did grab a good goal of their own before substitute Todd, rode a couple of strong challenges before being brought down on the edge of the area, and whilst everyone waited for the fee kick the referee played advantage as Max smacked home his first goal for the team to seal the victory which almost gives the boys the title. Mathematically the boys still need a point from their last two games, but such is their superior goal difference that the title should be theirs come the final reckoning. A decent game tonight played on a very dry pitch, between two committed teams, with our boys edging almost every department, all the boys players played well, with the opposition giving man of the match to Mitch for his overall display. Man of the match: Mitch Hales Goals: Nathan 1, Aaron 1, Max 1.

18/04/10 - A good time for the boys to play the best football they have played for a few weeks, in a semi-final of a cup, with all the squad playing their part in adding a Cup Final appearance to the League Title, as Vipers were completely outplayed for the majority of the game. The pitch was once again on the hard side, but the boys are now getting used to theses surfaces and passed the ball around really well, opening up the Vipers defence on several occasions, but not taking full advantage until Mitch latched on to a great pass from Aaron to slot home the opener, although that was to be the only goal of the half. Straight from the restart the boys pushed on further and really took control of the game, with Brad crashing home a beauty from the edge of the box to double the lead before Az notched a belter of his own as he smashed home from an acute angle with his right foot. With all the squad getting into the game, Az scored an even better goal to make the game safe and then Todd, who had replaced Nathan up front, worked the defenders really well and created a chance for Brad to slot home his second of the game to complete the scoring. Probably the best performance of the season as a TEAM today, with the boys winning all their personal battles, and also scoring five of the best goals they have scored throughout the campaign. Several contenders today, with Brad and Aaron having their best games this season, but Paul was absolutely dominant today and was quite rightly named as man of the match. Man of the match: Paul Garnett Goals: Brad 2, Aaron 2, Mitch 1.

02/05/10 - A good overall performance from the whole squad today, in what was a true game of two halves, as the boys added the League Cup to the League title to complete a ‘double’ in their first season together. The game, which was played at Ashton United’s Hurst Cross ground, saw the boys start the game comfortably, creating several openings in the opening 15 minutes before Mitch gave the boys the lead as he latched on to a good free kick from ‘Az’. The next goal game as the Curzon keeper fumbled a corner from Mitch to give Nathan a tap in to make it two, and both Mitch and Brad grabbed a goal each in the next few minutes to put the boys clear before half time, and with half time approaching Nathan was upended in the box to give Mitch the chance to notch his hat trick before Nathan scored the goal of the half after some great approach play from the ‘twins’ as Jordan intercepted a through ball played a one two with Bard before feeding the ball in for his brother to cut it back into ‘Brooky’s’ path to slot home. With the game all but won, all the boys in the squad got to play at least half a game, although being the right thing to do, this gave the opposition a foothold in the game as they were able to keep possession more than in the first half, and although Dominic still didn’t have a save to make, he was eventually beaten from the spot after a penalty was awarded for a foul in the box. The boys made a couple of chances of their own but the changes in formation meant that it was more a case of seeing the game out, especially after Nathan was harshly sent off after a clash with one of Curzon’s defenders in which both players were as guilty as each other but only Nathan was punished. Not the best football played by the boys this season today, but still enough to win the cup against a team that the boys meet again in league action in two days time. Several contenders today, with all the defence of Jordan, Paul, David and Harrison putting in a good shift, the midfield winning most of the battles and creating chances but for his 3 goals and having a hand in two others Mitch was as man of the match.
